FinishTrax guide
What local-first means for your task data
FinishTrax keeps the working copy of your tasks on your device. The app works offline, does not need a FinishTrax account, and can use your private iCloud database only when you choose to enable sync.
Short answer: Local-first means the app does not need a company server to open, edit, or search your tasks. Your device is the main home of the workspace, with optional iCloud sync and a portable JSON backup.
Where each kind of data goes
| Data | Default location | Your choice |
|---|---|---|
| Tasks, notes, images, settings | Your device | May also sync through private iCloud |
| JSON backup | The file location you choose | You decide where to save or share it |
| Optional usage analytics | Not sent by default | Can be enabled in Settings |
| Purchase status | Handled by Apple and RevenueCat | Needed to buy or restore access |
What private iCloud sync means
When sync is enabled, FinishTrax uses Apple's CloudKit private database for the signed-in Apple Account. FinishTrax does not run its own task-sync server. The app can still be used without enabling iCloud sync.
What local-first does not mean
- It does not mean the device can never fail. A separate backup is still important.
- It does not mean no service is ever contacted. Apple handles App Store purchases; RevenueCat helps restore access.
- It does not mean analytics can never be enabled. Anonymous app analytics is available, but it is off by default.
- It does not make every external link private. Opening a website follows that website's own privacy rules.
The complete service list, retention rules, and deletion instructions are in the FinishTrax Privacy Policy.
How to protect your workspace
- Choose whether you want private iCloud sync.
- Export a JSON backup after important changes.
- Store that file somewhere you can recover if the device is lost.
- Test an import when you need to confirm the backup workflow.
Common questions
